Miniature American Shepherds, also known as mini Australian Shepherds, are a smaller version of the standard breed. They typically weigh between 20-40 pounds and stand 14-18 inches tall at the shoulder. Miniature American Shepherds are highly intelligent and active dogs, with a strong herding instinct. Regular exercise and mental stimulation are essential for this size type to prevent issues and keep them physically and mentally healthy.
Toy Australian Shepherds are the smallest size category of the breed. These dogs weigh around 12-17 pounds and stand 10-13 inches tall at the shoulder. They are often referred to as “toys” due to their small size. Toy Australian Shepherds are known for their high energy levels and affectionate nature. Despite their small size, they are still active dogs and require regular exercise and mental stimulation. Toy Australian Shepherds can be a great choice for apartment living or for those who prefer a smaller dog.
